Joining the ranks of Josie Natori, Rafe Totengco, and Monique Lhuillier—Filipinos who've found success in the international fashion scene—is Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco, whose creations will be featured in an upcoming episode of the latest cycle of America’s Next Top Model (ANTM). Cinco’s couture pieces were modeled by the remaining contestants in a landfill-set photo shoot, with longtime ANTM judge Nigel Barker behind the lens.
Emmy Award-winning ANTM producer and fellow Pinoy Mike Carandang actually encouraged Cinco to submit his works to supermodel Tyra Banks, who is the creator of the show. “I took a chance, Tyra and my bosses bought into that risk. It was all worth it. The clothes were impeccable, like art works,” Carandang says in this interview for The Philippine Star. “Everyone in ANTM was so impressed—the crew, the talents, the producers, and of course, Tyra! I’m really proud to be able to bring Filipino talents on ANTM.”
