May 2 holiday? No. June 13? No. June 20?

May 2 holiday?yes or no?Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda has cleared on Twitter that May 2 is a regular working day and not a regular non-working holiday.May 2 is the day after the Labor Day, May 1, which falls on a Sunday and many assumed that the holiday will be moved to the nearest Monday, May 2.


But Lacierda posted on Twitter that it's not a holiday.
"@thevan12 May 2 is a regular working day," Lacierda said last April 25.

Meanwhile, in June, one more holiday also falls on a Sunday: June 12 (Independence Day).

And the holiday will stay on a Sunday and is most likely not to be moved on a Monday.

Here's the inconsistency.

Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal's birth anniversary is coming this June 19, which also happens to be a Sunday, and the Malacanang Palace has declared June 20 (Monday) instead as a special non-working holiday.

Well, it's because Rizal's birth anniversary this year is extra special as it's going to be Rizal's "Sesquicentennial" birthday.

DECLARING MONDAY, JUNE 20, 2011, AS SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

WHEREAS, Sunday, June 19, 2011, marks the 150th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our national hero;

WHEREAS, to give all Filipinos the opportunity to commemorate Rizal’s patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country, rekindle their admiration and respect for him, and to celebrate this milestone with appropriate ceremonies, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) requested that Monday, June 20, 2011, be declared as special non-working holiday instead of June 19, 2011, which falls on a Sunday.
